Student loans could be managed and collected by a single agency dealing with everything from income tax and benefits to home improvement loans, according to a report from the Cabinet Office's Performance and Innovation Unit.
It recommends a feasibility study to consider the scope for a single organisation. It will also look at the establishment of a single citizen's account through which all government tax, benefit and loan schemes could pass.
The report, Lending Support: Modernising the Government's Use of Loans , proposes easier public access to the full range of government loan schemes to both individuals and businesses.
