Smokers lost in a fug of mental confusion

SMOKERS in Britain overestimate their risk of suffering lung cancer by nearly three times. Research by Stephen Sutton at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London found smokers estimated their personal lifetime risk of getting lung cancer to be around 41 per cent. In fact it is about 14 per cent. The national study, involving more than 8,000 respondents, also found smokers were generally gloomier than non-smokers about their chances of being killed on the road or being murdered.
