(A Swansea University lecturer has been granted exclusive access to an unpublished archive of research on writer Ernest Hemingway's life in Cuba. Philip Melling, a reader in Swansea's department of American studies, will travel to Cuba in spring to study the work of Cuban scholars. The writer, seen here with a local man with whom he shared ownership of champion fighting cocks, left the island in 1958 due to ill health and personal safety, leaving behind his book collection and correspondence.
