A workshop exploring the research and technology development (RTD) opportunities for a sustainable extractive industry in the EU and candidate countries will take place on 3 and 4 November in Prague, the Czech Republic.

The workshop aims to provide stakeholders with a new perspective on the material supply chain in Europe. Five parallel sessions will take place, focusing on the following topics:

- waste minimisation and resource management;
- recycling and ecological production;
- market and competitiveness;
- eco-efficient and intelligent mineral processing and metallurgy;
- safety and health.

The workshop is being organised by Nesmi, a European thematic network funded under the Growth programme of the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5). Nesmi provides an EU-wide platform for disseminating knowledge and information about RTD activities in the sustainable mining and processing industries.
