Whistleblowers now protected by the law

January 8, 1999

Whistleblowers now have statutory protection against persecution and victimisation by employers.

Legal protection for those who blow the whistle on fraud, malpractice and crime in the workplace came into effect this week under the Public Interest Disclosure Act. Guidelines to the legislation are available from Natfhe.

Staff should exhaust internal procedures for raising complaints before turning to the press.
