Digital domesday sees daylight
Researchers have solved the puzzle of how to access the BBC’s Domesday project - a huge digital archive of life in the 1980s stored on outdated technology inaccessible by today’s computers. Researchers at Leeds University and the University of Michigan announced today that have developed software that emulates the obsolete BBC computer and videodisc player on which the original system ran.

Top Scots gong for Lord Sutherland
The Queen has awarded Scotland’s top honour to Lord Sutherland, president of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and former principal of Edinburgh, who is now one of 16 Knights of the Thistle. The appointments are in the Queen’s personal gift, not on the advice of the prime minister, and are second only in precedence to the Order of the Garter.
