Plans for a university campus in Swindon have been put on hold indefinitely in the wake of cuts in government funding. The University of the West of England has been told that money is no longer available from the Higher Education Funding Council for England or the Regional Development Agency for the expansion plans. John Rushforth, deputy vice-chancellor, said: "It's a disappointment. We can see the need, see the potential, and we have got a terrific model. Although the RDA has said it would be great, nobody is prepared to put the money up to make it work."
