A professor of chemistry is taking to the stage to highlight the importance of carbon. A "virtual" lecture delivered by Malcolm Heggie, of the University of Sussex, will be at the centre of Elementary Carbon, a play by the Organic Theatre company. The troupe's aim is to highlight the "amazing properties and boundless possibilities" of carbon, which these days is more often linked to global warming and climate change. Professor Heggie is advising on the project via a series of workshops. His resulting lecture will spark the action on stage. He said he had found it a challenge to get the science across to a general audience. "I'm a theoretical chemist," he remarked.
