A British university's Malaysian outpost has been rated among the top institutions in the country. The University of Nottingham's Malaysia Campus has been awarded the highest possible rating in a national assessment of teaching and learning, based on a number of factors such as the quality of teaching and the calibre of graduates. Top-rated institutions are awarded a number of privileges, such as the ability to determine their own tuition fees and set the salaries of foreign lecturers. Nottingham's Malaysia Campus opened 10 years ago and now educates 3,600 students drawn from more than 70 countries.
