University of Nottingham - 10,000 hits for campus cops

July 31, 2008

More than 10,000 hits have been recorded for an online video clip showing MA student Rizwaan Sabir being arrested by police on the campus of the University of Nottingham in 2007 while on a Palestinian Society demonstration. Mr Sabir and other society members had assembled a barrier across a path on campus to represent the wall dividing the Occupied Territories from Israel. When the students refused requests to remove the barrier, the police were called and Mr Sabir was arrested for breach of the peace. The video shows police warning students that the "wall" is causing "harassment, alarm and distress". Mr Sabir, who is studying Islamic terrorism, was arrested in May 2008 for possession of terrorist materials and held for six days before his release without charge.
