University of Leicester - Not good enough to be stolen

Modern criminals have undergone a "career change", switching focus from traditional house burglaries to personal muggings, according to research. The study by James Treadwell, a lecturer in criminology at the University of Leicester, concludes that because many homes now have less expensive electronic and household goods from East Asia, burglary has become less profitable. "If you can buy a DVD player for £19.99, it's simply not worth stealing," Dr Treadwell said.
