The Philharmonia Orchestra and the University of Leicester have formed a partnership, thought to be the first of its kind. Under the arrangement, musicians from the Philharmonia will provide on-campus masterclasses to Leicester students, thereby helping to nurture the next generation of musicians. The university has enhanced its musical scholarships under the deal, and students will be able to attend rehearsals and see Philharmonia concerts at discounted rates. "It is a real achievement to become the first university to develop a major link with a first-rate national orchestra," said Robert Burgess, vice-chancellor of Leicester.
