University of Glasgow - Rover has had his day

Olivia and Jack may be the most popular names for babies, but a Scottish survey of pets' names reveals that the most popular names for dogs are Max and Holly. Staff at the University of Glasgow's Veterinary School compiled the lists from faculty records dating back ten years and found that top names for male dogs also include Ben and Sam, with Molly and Bonnie most common for bitches. Jack makes an appearance as the third most popular name for cats, with Molly in second place and Charlie in the number one slot. But Ian Ramsey, director of Glasgow's Small Animal Hospital, said the trend for celebrity names has reached the animal world. Over the past three years, staff have treated pets called Al Capone, Clooney, Indiana, Gandalf, Harry Potter, Beckham and Del Boy.
