A £1.5 million grant to conduct the latest British Election Survey has been awarded to the University of Essex. The survey investigates why people vote, and why they choose one political party over another. It has been held for every general election since 1964, and has always been carried out by researchers at either Essex or the University of Oxford. The latest award was made by the Economic and Social Research Council.
