A scholarship programme is to give students from Africa the chance to study in the UK. The grants at the University of East Anglia will cover tuition fees for four African PhD students from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the first scholarships scheduled to be distributed in 2013 to coincide with the institution's golden jubilee. It is hoped the scheme will help extend UEA's existing partnerships across the continent. Funds for the scholarships will come from donations by alumni, friends of the university and staff.
