A symposium to celebrate businesses working with universities in the South West was held last week in Bristol. The day showcased the practical ways in which businesses have benefited from harnessing expertise in higher education. The event was organised by Great Western Research, which is a £14 million project over five years funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the South West Regional Development Agency to promote collaborations. To date, it has funded 130 new research projects by combining funds with businesses to support PhD students.
