Ten academics have been appointed associate professors at the University of Bournemouth. Appointees are expected to progress to full professor status within five years. The university has also created a new grading structure for existing professors, with four academics promoted to "professor grade 2" status in recognition of their contribution to international research. Paul Curran, the vice-chancellor, said: "Our new professorial structure is an important step ... The lack of a promotion round has been a concern since I was appointed, and I am delighted that through the hard work of colleagues and the co-operation of the University and College Union we now have a robust scheme in place."
