Staff at the University of Bolton's School of the Built Environment are taking part in a Department of Transport-commissioned three-year study on the popularity of cycling in the UK. Bolton is one of 17 towns and cities taking part in the project, which will promote bikes as cheap, healthy and environmentally sound. John Parkin, reader in transport engineering and planning, said: "(This) is a great opportunity to show how concerted investment in cycling will lead to increased use of this health-giving and environmentally friendly form of transport."
