A student who earned the sole first-class degree in her cohort has been named the best accountancy student of the year. The Institute of Financial Accountants made University of Bolton graduate Louise Evans, 38, its Outstanding Student of the Year. Nine years ago, then a single parent, Ms Evans took her first steps towards a career in accountancy via an open-learning course from home. She said: "I keep sending out my CV and I know that getting a first and this award make me stand out, but I just can't wait to put all I've learnt into practice."
