Nearly 100 right-wing nationalists were arrested last week for being registered as participants in a scholarly historical conference in Ukraine. Local authorities banned the gathering on the grounds that it might provoke interethnic violence at the time of the Jewish New Year. The theme of the conference was the 1768 Cossack uprising against Polish rule, in and around Uman.
