September 1, 2005

Brussels, 31 Aug 2005

The conference 'Towards a European Research Area', will take place in Speyer, Germany, from 19 to 21 October.

The German Research Institute for Public Administration is devoting its annual conference to the development of the European Research Area (ERA), expanding the research profile of the institute to the issue of science policy.

The aim of the conference is to advance the understanding and analysis of recent research policy at the European level, its intertwining with the national policy level and its consequences for the research community. Three sessions will deal with central topics from the debate:
- the coming into being of a European Research Council;
- the need for internationalisation of research and the overcoming of barriers to mobility and collaboration;
- the decision process on the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
