The freeze is on

A team of geographers has discovered a group of previously undocumented glaciers in Albania. Researchers from the Quaternary Environments and Geoarchaeology Group at the University of Manchester found four undiscovered glaciers in the "cursed mountains". The largest of them is currently the size of six football pitches, but the glaciers vary in size every year according to the amount of winter snowfall and temperatures during the following summer. Philip Hughes, a member of the research team, said: "We were amazed that - as far as we know - no one, apart from local shepherds, was aware of the existence of these glaciers. It was tremendously exciting to find them."
