Student largesse

Oxford University is set to receive the biggest benefaction to a UK university by a former student, allowing it to launch an Institute for Science and Civilisation. Computing pioneer James Martin has promised £670,000 a year for the institute. This could rise to more than £1 million a year in 20 years.
