Student calls for royal coup

Prince Philip's verbal gaffes have led a student to challenge his life chancellorship of Edinburgh University. Jeremy Kemp has tabled a motion for next week's students' association annual general meeting questioning the prince's suitability as figurehead. It lists a series of his comments, from saying a fusebox "looked as though it was put in by an Indian" to telling British students in China, "If you stay here much longer you'll all be slitty-eyed." Edinburgh student president Will Garton said: "The Duke of Edinburgh has an unfortunate record. As many students think the monarchy is an outdated institution, it is increasingly hard to see the purpose of any hereditary hierarchy. However, it is up to the AGM to make a decision on this issue."
