Subject: State-of-play regarding WTO dispute-settlement procedures DS 291-292-293: USA, CAN, ARG-EC on measures concerning the approval and marketing of biotechnology products

On 29 August 2003, the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) set up a panel at the request of USA, CAN and ARG to examine the WTO compatibility of EU measures relating to the approval and marketing of biotechnology products.

In weeks seven and eight of this year, expert hearings and panel meetings were held in Geneva under the above dispute-settlement procedure. The Commission is asked to report on the past and future conduct of proceedings.
