Proof of the lamentable state of undergraduate finances can be found, it seems, in this year's applications for the National Student Journalism Awards.
The National Union of Students, which organises the annual shindig for wannabe scribes, reports that there were a record number of applications.
But there were also a record number of applicants who failed to pay the correct postage.
