Stag hunting

Durham University last month sold some 900 deer-related paintings, books and artefacts from its Whitehead Collection to raise money to preserve the archive's core books and papers and to fund work by postgraduates studying deer.

The collection was bequeathed to the university after the death of Kenneth Whitehead, who travelled the world in a bid to observe and photograph every species of deer.
