Spending on students falls

Cash per student fell from Pounds 5,335 in 1995-96 to a planned Pounds 4,700 in 2001-02, the annual report of the Department for Education and Employment reveals. It shows spending plans up to 2002.

Full-time equivalent student numbers in higher education rose from 1,023,000 in 1998-99 to a planned 1,088,000 in 2001-02.
