Europe's oldest man has been given an honorary doctorate by Southampton Solent University. Henry Allingham, who is nearly 113, was presented with an honorary doctorate of engineering by the university's chancellor, Lord West. He was honoured for his contribution to Britain and its allies during two world wars, and his continuing charity work, which benefits other veteran servicemen and women.
