Social work shake-up

Service users are to help shape the new social-work degree, health minister Jacqui Smith told a conference on the future of social work education and training this week. Universities will be provided with specific funding to support the involvement of users. The new degree, which will replace the diploma in social work from 2004, will have a strong focus on practice learning.
