It seems that everyone wants to know what goes on behind closed doors in admissions interviews for Oxbridge. Newspapers report that tutors at Oxford University have been encouraged to sit on smaller chairs, so as not to loom over candidates. Meanwhile, we hear that one Oxford college has expressed a wish to hold interviews in rooms without too many books. The source neglected to say if chick lit and The Da Vinci Code were now more likely to find their way on to interview-room shelves, but the rumour will doubtless send shivers down the spines of dons warming themselves in the south of France.
