Sherlock to lead Adult Learning Inspectorate

(Photograph) - David Sherlock (pictured) was this week appointed chief executive of the new Adult Learning Inspectorate.

The inspectorate, which will start operation on April 1 2001, will bring together the assessment of adult education and training in institutions and workplaces provided by both the public and private sectors. It will also look at the work of the University for Industry.

In further education colleges, it will work alongside the schools inspectorate Ofsted.

Mr Sherlock is currently the chief inspector of the Training Standards Council.
