Shakespeare at the movies

The two principal areas of research now helping English at De Montfort on its way have concentrated on examination of text adaptations for the screen and editing primary texts for publication.

The text/screen work has looked at how classical writers such as Shakespeare translate to film, as well as examining wider issues of the relationship between the two media. For example, work in progress includes a study of aesthetics and images of sisterhood in film and fiction.

It involves close collaboration between English and media specialisms. Primary texts now being edited include W. H. Auden, Robert Browning, George Orwell and Virginia Woolf.
