David Beckham's team are not England's only football hope in the Far East. Plymouth University is flying the flag in the 2002 Robot Football World Cup, which began in Seoul yesterday. Mark Norman, Guido Bugmann and Phil Calverhouse hope their 8cm-high robots will trounce opponents from some 20 teams in the five-a-side Mirosot (micro robot soccer) competition.
But team manager Paul Robinson said the Koreans could have the edge. "The chances of a western team winning are about zilch," he admitted.
