Scotland keeps trainee teachers on target

The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council has eased pressures on teacher education institutions by maintaining next year's student intakes. SHEFC has taken over from the Scottish Office Education and Industry Department responsibility for setting intakes to initial teacher education courses. In future, the SOEID will set out only the minimum requirements for newly qualified teachers and ministers' strategic objectives for teacher education and supply.
