Brussels, 17 Mar 2003

An international symposium on forest ecosystem and landscape research will take place from 25 to June in Tours, France.

The event aims at identifying the scientific priorities for forest ecosystem and landscape research within the context of sustainability, and to discuss the readiness of the forest research community to address these scientific priorities.

The following research areas will be given particular attention:

- biogeochemical cycling;
- biodiversity and forest management;
- landscape ecology;
- socio-economics.

Participants at the event will also discuss the possibility of organising a network of excellence, under the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), on sustainable forest management and forest ecosystem research.
