Four hundred years of intimate English secrets are being revealed thanks to a professor of history. Amanda Vickery, from the department of history at Royal Holloway, University of London, has researched and presented A History of Private Life, a 30-part BBC Radio 4 series, with support from a Knowledge Transfer Fellowship from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The series pieces together a vivid image of the past using every historical source imaginable - from love letters and diaries, to burglary trials and upholsterers' ledgers. An episode will be broadcast every weekday until 6 November.
