Two law faculty researchers at La Sapienza University convicted of the manslaughter of Marta Russo, a student killed by a pistol shot as she walked through the campus in 1997, have been released pending an appeal against jail sentences of four and seven years. Other defendants, including the dean of the law philosophy department, Bruno Romano, accused of obstructing justice, were acquitted.
