October 30, 2003

Brussels, 29 Oct 2003

EU Commissioner for Research Philippe Busquin will attend an international conference on 'research infrastructures: centres of exchange, training and excellence for the European Research Area (ERA)' on 21 and 22 November in Trieste, Italy.

The objective of the INFRA/ERA 2003 conference is to assess the present and future role of the research infrastructures in the construction of the ERA, and to further develop a common EU and Member States policy in this area, as initiated by the European strategy forum on research infrastructures (ESFRI).

Participants will be able to contribute to the discussion through an open web forum, and the outcome of these discussions and proposals will be addressed to European policymakers for further actions supporting the growth of the ERA.

The conference is being organised by the Italian EU Presidency.
