Make way, philosopher-footballer Eric Cantona, for rugby legend Francois Pienaar.

Receiving an honorary degree from the University of Herfordshire last month, Pienaar marked the occasion by quoting poetry. He recited Kipling's "The man in the glass":

  For it isn't your father, your
mother, or wife,
  Whose judgement of you -
you must pass,
  The fellow whose verdict
counts most in your life,
  Is the guy staring back in the
glass.
