The modern sight of middle-aged men in Lycra battling their way through city traffic on professional racing bikes may be here to stay. A team at the University of the West of England's Bristol Social Marketing Centre commissioned a UK-wide survey of the latest opinions on cycling, following its recent resurgence. The YouGov survey of almost 4,000 people found that 42 per cent of the British public think cycling has "become cool", with 38 per cent agreeing that bike technology today is "sexier" than it was in the past. However, a sizeable minority - 28 per cent - say that roads are for cars, not bikes.
