Questions of structural integrity

What is needed is staff who can produce more and better research and heads of schools of architecture who value research and have sufficient knowledge of it to be able to manage their resources.

Rather than changing the degree structure, better research might be ensured by appointing veteran research-producing academics to chairs of architecture rather than by parachuting in people who are out of practice and have questionable qualifications.
