Protect and survive

Marine biologist Lauren Smith is working to protect a shark species prized for its meat and fins, which are used in soups and other dishes. These pictures were taken during the Thresher Shark Research Conservation Project at Malapascua Island in the Philippines. Dr Smith worked on the project after completing a PhD at the University of Aberdeen.
