VACANCY: High profile public service post. Must be able to cope with chronic overcrowding, underfunding, grumpy staff, reams of paperwork, endless dubious performance indicators, meddling ministers seeking short-term party political advantage. Fluency in management gobbledegook a distinct advantage. As experience of similar working conditions is presumably a must, need Michael Howard look further than the vice chancellors in appointing the next director-general of HM Prisons?
