Presidency conference to examine research challenges and societal risks

A conference on 'Science, environment and development: accepting research challenges to reduce societal risks' will take place in Murcia, Spain, from 29 to 31 May.

The event, organised by the Spanish Presidency of the EU and Spain's ministry of science and technology, will examine research challenges in environmental issues such as air pollution control and water quality. It will also look at EC-sponsored research for the environment and the role of research in linking industrial competitiveness to sustainable development.

The conference will include a welcome address from Spain's Secretary of State for science and technology, Ramón Marimón, and presentations from representatives of the European Commission's Research and Environment DGs, the Joint Research Centre, the European space agency and universities throughout Europe.
