Ben Pimlott appears to have learnt little from the sustained attacks he has suffered at the hands of his staff and governors as warden of Goldsmiths College, University of London. A new tier of senior managers - unofficially to keep Professor Pimlott in check - is being introduced after the Association of University Teachers described him as "autocratic" and passed a vote of no confidence, and governors threatened to put him on probation.
Last week, Professor Pimlott gatecrashed a staff meeting initiated to discuss the reforms and attempted to chair the debate. Only after protests from the AUT and a vote by the 90 staff present did he reluctantly step down and retire to the back of the room.
