It's not unusual for conference delegates to emerge from their rooms looking fragile and bleary-eyed on their first morning. But those attending the National Postgraduate Committee's annual event at Strathclyde University had a different excuse from most. They hit town in time for the World Pipe Band Championships, most of whose 8,000 pipers appeared to be practising outside delegates' windows well into the wee small hours.
