Periodic call in the area of 'Aeronautics and Space', 'Sustainable energy systems' and 'Sustainable surface transport'

The European Commission has published a call for proposals in the areas of 'Aeronautics and Space', 'Sustainable energy systems' and 'Sustainable surface transport' under the Sixth Framework Programme's 'Aeronautics and space' and 'Sustainable development, global change and ecosystems' thematic priorities. These are areas covered by the 'Integrating and strengthening the European research area' specific programme.

The areas covered by this call are: a) Aeronautics and space
- Integrated Focused Downstream Research (area 1.3.2 of the work programme), topics 9 (phase two) and 10 (phase two).

b) Sustainable Energy systems
-Large scale integration of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, (area 6.1.3.1.1.2 of the work programme);
-Eco-buildings (area 6.1.3.1.2.1 of the work programme);
-Polygeneration (area 6.3.1.2.2. of the work programme);
-Alternative motor fuels (area 6.1.3.1.3 of the work programme).

c) Sustainable surface transport
- New technologies and concepts for all surface transport modes (road, rail and waterborne), (objective 1 of the work programme);
- Re-balancing and integrating different transport modes (objective 3 of the work programme);
- Increasing road, rail and waterborne safety and avoiding traffic congestion (objective 4 of the work programme).

In specifying the instruments to be used in these areas, the call requests the use of integrated projects, specific targeted research projects, coordination actions and specific support actions. Proposers are advised to consult the full call text at the address below in order to find out the particular instruments requested for each area.

The total indicative budget for this call is 175 million euro, broken down as follows:
'Aeronautics and space': 20 million euro
'Sustainable energy systems': 107 million euro
'Sustainable surface transport': 48 million euro
