French universities will have to pay for the clear-up operation and repairs to buildings that were damaged during the weeks of occupations held in protest against the now-abandoned youth employment law. Thierry Breton, the Finance Minister, assessed the cost at "several hundred thousand euros" for each university. The cost of repairs at the Sorbonne is estimated by the Paris Education Authority at E500,000-E1 million (£346,000-Pounds 692,000).
