* Oxford University has been awarded £5.3 million by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to set up a new Doctoral Training Centre to strengthen interdisciplinary research.
The centre will enable mathematics, engineering and physical science graduates to embark on research programmes at the life sciences interface.
Programme director David Gavanagh said: "Application of mathematical and physical science techniques to problems in medicine and biology holds out the promise of major breakthroughs."
